Miqui Otero
Miqui Otero (Barcelona, 1980) made his début with the acclaimed novel Hilo musical (Background Music) (2010), winner of the FNAC New Talent Prize. He followed this two years later with La cápsula del tiempo (The Time Capsule) (2012), named Book of the Year by Rockdelux. He has been a regular contributor to El País and the Cultura/s supplement of La Vanguardia and currently writes a column for El Periódico. He also teaches journalism and literature at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. With Rayos (Rays) (2016), hailed by critics as the new ‘great Barcelona novel’, he established himself as one of the leading voices in contemporary Spanish literature. His ambitious novel Simón (2020) won the Ojo Crítico Prize, was shortlisted for the Dulce Chacón Prize, appeared on numerous year‑end best‑books lists and confirmed his standing with both critics and readers. The novel is currently being adapted for the screen and has been translated into several languages. Orquesta (Orchestra) (Alfaguara, 2023) is his most recent work.
