Literary program
The literary programme is the heart of FIL Guadalajara, and Barcelona, as guest city of honour, will be present with a broad delegation of more than 60 authors, accompanied by professionals from the publishing world.
Barcelona will arrive in Guadalajara with plenty of stories. Some will belong to the past, and we will enjoy looking back in time, but most will be imbued with the present, to explain the literary Barcelona of 2025. We want to take readers on a journey through contemporary Barcelona, featuring well-known figures, but we are also keen to introduce new voices to readers in Mexico.
We will go there with writers from various generations, who will address all types of genres, from novels to essays, short stories and poetry, and who write mainly in Spanish and Catalan, though not exclusively. Of course, we want to recover the legacy of the so-called ‘Barcelona literary boom’ and recognise the numerous Latin American authors that have made Barcelona their home.
We hope that our present awakens the curiosity of the FIL public, who we want to tell about some of our past as well: every day, we will pay tribute to a key figure, now gone, from the city's literary past. We have chosen Carmen Balcells, Joan Brossa, Pere Calders, Ana María Matute, Mercè Rodoreda, Montserrat Roig, Manuel Vázquez Montalbán and Jacint Verdaguer.
