“Poetry, politics and nonconformity” are the words Vicenç Altaió, president of the Brossa Foundation, uses to define Barcelona’s Joan Brossa (1919–1998), a multidisciplinary poet and artist who knew how to play with words in all their shapes and meanings, turning them into a powerful artistic weapon through poetry, design, visual art and theatre, among other disciplines. His works are remarkably timeless, and to this day, he continues to inspire his disciples and all those who knew him. A visionary of our times, an indefatigable creator and playful spirit, he believed that “poetry is everywhere; you just have to be able to see it.” Together with Altaió, Maria Canelles, the director of Visual and Textual Arts at the Brossa Foundation, and Juana Dolores and Mercè Galí, authors whose work has engaged with Brossa’s, will discuss the oeuvre of this multifaceted poet, an intellectual of his era and an author for all time.
