The city's commerce receives a score of 8.1 from its residents

The residents of Barcelona have given a very good score (8.1) to the commercial offering provided by the city. The score is similar to that obtained in previous years. Currently, as regards the degree of satisfaction, 86.1% of those consulted (86.8% in September last year) confirm that they are very or quite satisfied, This data is from the Omnibus survey carried out periodically by Barcelona City Council, which is based on the results obtained between March and April of the opinions expressed by a thousand participants

The assistance that citizens receive from retailers when making their purchases is very or quite satisfactory for 81.9% of respondents, the highest in recent years (2009-2018), with an average score of 7.7.

As regards opening hours, 83.8% say they feel very or quite satisfied, 11.6% are satisfied and 4.1% are a little or not at all satisfied. The average score is 7.9 (8.0 in September 2017).

Neighbourhood shops and specialist shops are where the respondents say they feel they are served best (50.3%), followed by the municipal markets (21.0%), supermarkets (14.4%), shopping centres (4.8%) and hypermarkets (0.9%).

When it comes to going shopping, the most valued traits are, respectively, honesty (75.3% [69.6% last September]), professionalism (61.7% [59,7%]), the treatment received (58.7% [56.8%]), product advice (48.6% [44.9%]) and speed (34% [39.9%]).

On asking the respondents if they tend to make purchases from their own homes, 57.2% say they ‘always’ do, an area in which there is a significant increase (51.9% last September), 'often' from 21% (20.4%), 'sometimes', 11.8% (14.7%), 'rarely' 5.1% (5.1%) and 'never or almost never' on 4.8% (7.8%).

E-commerce

The June Omnibus survey shows that, when it comes to online shopping, 6 out of every 10 people currently shop online. Men shop online more (73.7%) than women (57.3%). By age group, the demographic group of 25 to 34 is the one that makes the most use of e-commerce.

The majority of people who sometimes shop online do so occasionally (53.3%). Twenty percent do so every month and 12.6% every two months. The figure for every two weeks is 7.2% and 6.5% for those who shop online every week. The trend shows that although the regular buying percentages are still low, these values are maintained or rise substantially with each sample, while the occasional purchase is lower (5.2% compared to a year ago).

The types of products that are purchased most frequently are IT (34.7% [29.0 last December]), and clothing and footwear (34.4% [30.3]), both up compared to the previous study. Leisure and culture (34.2% [47.5]) shows a decrease.
