Circ au Carré

27 May, 2019 - 00:01 to 10 July, 2019 - 23:59

Moving and mixing for reflection.

CIRC AU CARRÉ is a new European project, led by La Central del Circ (Barcelona, Catalonia) in partnership with La Grainerie (Toulouse, Occitania), La Verrerie (Alés, Occitania) and the C.IN.E. (Sineu, Balearic Isles), and support from the Pyrenees-Mediterranean Euro-region under the rubric of the 2018 Call for Culture Projects. Its aim is to create, transform and/or consolidate links between actors in contemporary circus in the Mediterranean area (artists, technical experts, directors of institutions), with a strong emphasis on research.

Arts Discipline

Circus

Target Candidate

Emerging contemporary circus companies (solos, duos or trios) interested in carrying out two weeks of research in a venue located outside their place of residence and taking part in two exchange and dialogue workshops with other professionals outside the arts world.

Residency Period

The two-week residencies will take place between November 2019 and October 2020 according to the availability of the participating company and venues.

The first workshop will take place on 18-19 October in Toulouse (France) and the second in Barcelona (Spain) on 16-17 April 2020.

Research Residency

CIRC AU CARRÉ is offering emerging artists the chance to experience a period of research in another context, thereby broadening, reinforcing or renewing their circus vocabulary and language.

Throughout the residency, the artist or company will have access to a space for experimenting around a theme, without any creation or production aim.

Encounters or moments of reflection with artists from the territory where the residency is taking place will be organised with the aim of maximising this change in surroundings for the purpose of mixing and examining new ideas.

There will also be a search for dialogue with a professional from the local arts scene, in the line with the needs of the company and with the help of the host venue.

At the end of each residency there will be a moment of exchange with the local community (artists, specific and general public).

Exchange and Dialogue Workshops

During these workshops tandems will be created between the participating artists and selected non-arts professionals who will meet with the aim of (re) acquainting themselves with each other and (re)inventing their relationship through the creation of a sustainable link to be hopefully maintained beyond the project.
