Feral Writing Residency

Joint call from Hangar and La Escocesa to write, edit and publish a short- or medium-format original piece of writing (pamphlet, fanzine, comic, magazine, script…). The call is intentionally open to all forms of writing and types of edition.

Conditions

Hangar and La Escocesa offer:

  • A study in the 25 x 25 m wooden hut located in the Hangar garden, with access to communal spaces (toilet, kitchen). A minimum stay of two weeks with a maximum of six months. If the selected individual does not live in Barcelona it is possible there may be accommodation in a room at the Hangar residence. The need for this must be stated in the project description.
  • A short- or medium-format publication: pamphlet, fanzine, comic, magazine, script, etc. The number of copies of the publication will vary according to each project. Printing will be carried out by La Escocesa on a Riso 4-colour digital duplicator (blue, red, black, fluorescent pink). Production and handling will be under the care of the author(s) with support from a technical advisor. The publication will have its own on-line version.
  • 1 000 € fees to be paid once the project is completed.

 

Commitments expected from the selected candidate:

  • A public presentation/reading.
  • Publish the text under free licence.
  • Form part of the selection committee of the next call for applications.
  • Include the logo of La Escocesa and Hangar on the publication.

Selection

The Selection Committee will be made up of one member of the programmes committee, two members of Hangar and two members of La Escocesa.

Assessment Criteria

Selection will be based exclusively in the quality of the texts submitted and the personal statement/covering letter. Neither career path nor CV will be taken into account.
 

There are no restrictions on age or nationality.

Application Submission

To apply for the residency candidates must submit the following documentation:

  1. A text explaining the project to be carried out during the residency, specifying if there are more individuals involved in the processes of writing, editing and designing for the publication.
  2. Timescale for the project.
  3. Prior example of writing (published or not).
  4. Personal statement/covering letter.

There is no restriction on the language of publication but texts submitted must be written in Spanish, Catalan or English.
No explanations will be forthcoming with regard to the reasons why projects have not been selected.
The selection committee will be allowed to carry out interviews to chosen candidates if it is considered necessary.
