Reial Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes
The Reial Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes has been inhabited by Order of St. Clare nuns since it was founded in the 14th century by King James II the Just (of Aragon) and his last wife, Elisenda de Montcada. The monastery was declared a national historic and artistic monument in 1931. Since 1983, part of the enclosure has been open to the public as a museum. The most distinctive part of the monastery is undoubtedly the cloister, which is the largest Gothic cloister in the world.
The Monestir de Pedralbes is an ideal setting for cultural activities. However, the monumental complex’s preservation and the Museum’s daily activities must be respected, as must the community of Order of St. Clare nuns who live there.
