On 13th June 1997 Barcelona and Antwerp were twinned with the signing in Barcelona of a declaration of friendship between the two cities.
The twinning agreement consolidated the collaboration between Barcelona and Antwerp in topics related to the port, economic development, science and technology, social welfare and the integration of immigrants, amongst others.
