Definition

The IEMed is a centre of studies and analysis for the identification and interpretation of the challenges for the Mediterranean areas and for the elaboration of proposals aimed at facing them.  It offers spaces of reflection, analysis and debate, as well as assessment and aid for cultural and cooperation projects. It promotes the participation of the civil society in the Mediterranean space through various networks and in collaboration with entities from the social, economic and cultural world.    

Goals

  • To foster the knowledge of the Euro-Mediterranean region through research and studies.
  • To offer a space of reflection and debate about the Mediterranean societies.
  • To promote the knowledge and cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean.
  • To boost the participation of the civil society in the Barcelona Process.
  • To carry out training activities and diffusion.
  • To provide support to the institutions and networks that work and act in the Euro-Mediterranean space.  

Participation of Barcelona

The IEMed is a consortium formed by Barcelona City Council, the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Spanish Government.  The Mayor of Barcelona is second vice president of the Governing Board.  The Department of International Relations maintains regular relations with the entity and frequently collaborates in the various activities, seminars and forums that it organises.
