In November 2022, the Mayor of Lyon, Grégory Doucet, visited Barcelona on the occasion of the Smart City Expo World Congress and was able to learn about a series of projects and programs carried out by the City Council. As a result of this visit, and given the growing collaboration between the two cities in various fields, on March 28, 2023, a collaboration framework agreement was signed by Lyon and Barcelona. It will serve not only to formalize existing relations, but also to facilitate cooperation in new areas of common interest.

The three-year agreement includes several areas: Adaptation of the territory to climate change and ecological transition; Urban planning, mobility and accessibility; Culture; Sustainable tourism; Justice and social inclusion; Defense of human rights; Sustainable feeding; global health; Governance and citizen participation and Security.
