Dating back to 2006, and originally called the Mireia Tapiador Award, the Women and Sport Awards are a recognition of the sporting careers of women in Barcelona. The awards have grown over time, and today there are five categories that recognise different aspects of women’s sport.
Today they provide a key point of reference for women’s work in the field of sport in the city. As well as rewarding both individual and collective excellence, the awards aim to raise the profile of women in sport, and foster equality of opportunity.
The submission period for candidacies for all the prizes will be open from today until 24 April.
Mireia Tapiador Award for the Promotion of Sport: rewards work done in raising awareness of, and promoting, women’s sport.
Sportswoman Award: recognises sporting achievement, social impact and contribution to the world of sport.
Best Media Award: highlights efforts made to disseminate and promote events, activities and successes related to women in sport.
Sports Club award: recognises the work done to promote women’s sport, landmark achievements in sport, and the implementation of schemes aimed at boosting equality.
Best Woman Sports Manager Award: rewards the careers of women in managerial or executive positions.
