Margaret Michaelis. Cinc dies pel barri Xino
The Photographic Archive of Barcelona presents the photo report undertaken by Margaret Michaelis and commissioned by GATCPAC for the exhibition on the reform project known as ‘La Nova Barcelona’ [The New Barcelona], which was held beneath Plaça de Catalunya in 1934.
Thanks to a new study on Michaelis and her time in the Barcelona of the Second Spanish Republic, we can take a fresh look at the assignment she undertook on the streets of District V, also known as El Raval and the Barri Xino.
On two of the days, she was accompanied by GATCPAC members. Michaelis made the most of this opportunity to capture moments with her Leica camera from her own, personal point of view.
