Montjuïc. The amusement park

The Montjuïc amusement park, in operation for three decades, became an emblematic place of Barcelona, which marked a whole period in the social life of the city until 1998, when it opened its doors for the last time.

Conceived by the mayor Josep Maria de Porcioles in the mid-sixties, the park was one of the city's transformation projects promoted by the Francoist council beeing part of a propaganda operation that sought to provide a most modern imatge of the regime.

The exhibition proposes a route that recovers the previous historical context, the construction of the amusement park, the years of operation and its closure in the post-Olympic Barcelona that involved its dismantling and the remodeling of the area in the Joan Brossa Gardens.
