Montjuïc Castle gets a facelift

01.Dec.2015

The Castle is undergoing a process of thorough reorganisation in order to adapt it to the demands of a modern heritage site.

The work in progress affects various parts of the Castle. First, new entrances to the Sant Carles Bastion are being built, which will make them accessible to people with special mobility needs. Work is also being done in the rooms in the west wing of the parade ground, updating and renovating the facilities to adapt them to the new times. A third project is being carried out in the old barracks, currently closed to the public, in order to modernise them for future use. Finally, a new energy and air-conditioning control centre is being installed in the restricted area in the outer ward.

Despite this work, the site will be open to the public as usual, offering exhibitions and cultural activities to visitors.

The work will go on throughout 2016 and its aim is to update the castle to bring it into the twenty-first century, thereby turning it into a modern heritage site.
