For over a decade, this strange gadget has been on the roof of La Escocesa Creative Factory (https://laescocesa.org/es). Over the years, the origin and purpose of this object have been the subject of speculation by those who have inhabited the factory. It has been said to be a large raffle drum, a solar oven, a rain collector, a globe, or an astronomical instrument. Almost no one knows what it is and why it's there, but it has become a symbol of the magical, improvisational, precarious, and eccentric nature of the Factory.
Now we've moved it to the Castle so that something similar might happen, so that you may wonder what it is and how it got here. We've pushed a ruin up the hill to invoke ambiguity in this fortress. We leave you with this rusty totem to reflect on the layers upon which the history of a place is built.
This work is part of the upcoming exhibition produced by La Escocesa Creation Factory in collaboration with the Montjuïc Castle, curated by Clara Piazuelo, which will take place from the 22nd January to 24 March 2024.
