Marta Orriols
Marta Orriols lives in Barcelona. She trained as an art historian and has also worked in film scriptwriting. She contributes regularly to various magazines and newspapers. A keen admirer of Anglo‑Saxon literature, she oversaw the Spanish-language edition of the short‑story anthology by Edna O’Brien The Love Object (Objeto de amor, Lumen, 2018). She made her début with Lumen through the short‑story collection Anatomía de las distancias cortas (Anatomy of Short Distances) (2017), which had already been published in Catalan in 2016 and was met with accolades. Within less than a month, it became a best‑seller and was included among the recommended Christmas reads, and Granta magazine selected one of her stories for its Spanish‑language edition. Her first novel, Learning to Talk to Plants (Lumen, 2018 [English publication: Pushkin Press, 2020]), was awarded the Òmnium Prize for the best Catalan‑language novel of 2018 and the L’Illa dels Llibres Prize, and has been translated into eleven languages. Dulce introducción al caos Sweet Introduction to Chaos) is her most recent novel.
