In recent decades, translation support programmes have emerged as key tools for sharing Ibero-American literature worldwide. This conversation will explore how these grants serve as “nation branding” strategies and are linked to the dynamics of the publishing world. Based on the data and the macro-analysis conducted as part of the Trad-Divers (Translating Diversity: Institutional and Political Stakeholders of Literary Translation in Ibero-America, 2001–2022, R&D&I Ministry Project PID2023-147380NB-I00) project, it will analyse cases such as translations supported by Institut Ramon Llull in Latin America – especially Mexico – and the impact of the Protrad programme on the international projection of Mexican authors.
