Introduction

Barcelona is beginning to take steps towards becoming a benchmark in nighttime governance, adopting a comprehensive approach that integrates day and night, with the aim of providing a strategic, shared, and proactive response to the city's nightlife. Our aim is to establish the city as a European benchmark for cultural, musical, and entertainment activities, while promoting a better balance between a vibrant nightlife and residents’ need for rest. We also acknowledge that managing the city at night involves a wide range of sectors, including healthcare, transport, cleaning, the cultural and creative industries, and goods distribution that takes place at night. Barcelona has emerged as a leading example of innovation in local nighttime management.
