Creation of a bike and pedestrian route along the Rec Comtal
The strategy for geographical diversification of the tourism offer, includes a plan to build and consolidate a pedestrian and bike path following the route of the Rec Comtal, connecting the various infrastructures and landscapes related to water.
This initiative, led by the Besòs Consortium, proposes a pedestrian and bicycle route that follows the path of the Rec Comtal, passing through Vallbona and connecting with Avinguda Meridiana. This route highlights the historical heritage of Vallbona, linked to water and agriculture, and passes by landmarks such as the network of mines, the Casa de la Mina, the Casas de l’Aigua and the Pont de la Vaca.
The Rec Comtal, with over 1,000 years of history, is an ancient water transport canal with a side path that connects areas of great environmental and heritage value within a highly urbanised setting. The landscapes along the canal are diverse, connecting natural areas such as the Besòs River and the river park, while linking the Collserola and Marina mountain ranges.
This project aims to design the route with a unified approach to make it easily identifiable, featuring meeting and resting areas for both locals and visitors. Furthermore, it represents the continuation of the transformation of Avinguda Meridiana, with an increase in pedestrian space, enhanced bicycle mobility and the integration of more greenery to improve the quality of the urban environment.
In summary, the project creates a historical and environmental route around the Rec Comtal, promoting a sustainable and cultural connection between various points of interest in the city.
