Musems await senior citizens

“Museums await you” is being launched as a project for users of the VinclesBCN service and centres for the elderly in the districts of Sarrià - Sant Gervasi and L’Eixample, who will be able to participate from April. The goal is to show that museums are places where people can learn, enjoy themselves and socialise with others.

There are eighteen museums in all, half of them in the city, and four travelling exhibitions from Barcelona Provincial Council’s Local Museum Network (XML). The cycle will adopt a hybrid format, combining free online visits and face-to-face visits, with a discounted price of between one and five euros.

The possibility of face-to-face visits is the main change compared to last year’s edition, entitled “Museums visit you”. The context for the cycle was heavily determined by the pandemic at that point and the goal of the initiative was to help combat the feeling of loneliness among the elderly, through cultural and well-being activities at home.

Both cycles were organised by the Working Group on Museums and Accessibility, in collaboration with the Ministry for the Promotion of Elderly People and the Museums Service at the Government of Catalonia.
