American Space
American Space Barcelona (ASB) is a collaboration project between the US Consulate in Barcelona, the Sant Andreu district office and the city’s library network (Biblioteques de Barcelona).
The ASB collection, services and activities are aimed at children, young people and the general public, as well as schools (primary and secondary), students and teachers.
The ASB offers a cultural programme designed for learning English informally in a fun, collaborative environment with a large collection of books available. The initiative includes Chill & Chat, a conversation programme in English for young people, the Face to Face language exchange and the Meeting Point.
Biblioexperimenta is a family workshop where people can experiment with technological resources offered by the library, create and programme with Lego WeDo, carry out projects with littleBits and create sculptures with 3D pens. Older participants can also experiment with the Wacom drawing tablet.
Club Maker is a space open to the public for learning collaborative technology and experimenting with these tech tools.
The ASB collection includes themes such as promoting STEAM studies, learning English, entrepreneurship, academic advice and the promotion of cultural exchange with the USA.
To combat disinformation, the ASB offers digital analysis and verification activities for students and teaching staff from schools in collaboration with Que no te la cuelen. It also recommends Learn to check, a media education project about disinformation and the verification of digital content, offering key points and a wide array of resources to check information, images, videos and accounts on social media.
Education USA Barcelona is a free official academic advisory service offered by the US government. Its services are aimed at students interested in degrees and post-graduate courses in US universities, as well as families, academic advisers and teaching staff.
Tablet Corner is a family space that is free to use, under the supervision of an adult, offering access to Osme educational game kits to enjoy programming, maths or English with the family, or to draw and play Tangram.
STEAM Workshops offer the chance to engage in digital creation, programming, robotics and 3D printing.
Technovation Girls is an international technology and entrepreneurship competition for girls around the world between the ages of 8 and 18. Every year, Technovation Girls invites teams of girls from all over the world to learn and apply the skills needed to resolve real problems through technology.
Zona Gaming is a project offering users a relaxed and informal leisure setting based around different forms of gaming culture, at the same time conceived as a place for creating community, transmitting and promoting knowledge, fostering creativity and STEAM vocations through games and video games.
