Cesc Gay is undoubtedly among the filmmakers who have most accurately portrayed Barcelona and its people, or at least those belonging to a particular, relatively well-off social class. So it is with Eva, a woman approaching 50 for whom a chance encounter rekindles an unexpected flame, leading her to leave her husband of twenty years and re-enter the game of love. An outstanding Nora Navas plays the leading role, a woman who lets herself be carried along by chance—the true driving force of our lives—as she realises she is experiencing a “now or never” moment. A finely wrought comedy, precise and tremendously effective, with sharp writing and standout performances (from Juan Diego Botto, Rodrigo de la Serna, Àgata Roca and Miki Esparbé), it centres on a mature woman and confirms the talent of a filmmaker who rarely misses the mark.
