Irene Iborra i Maite Carranza
Moderator: Àlex Montoya
The first Catalan stop-motion animated feature, and the first in Spain to be directed by a woman. Irene Iborra brings Maite Carranza’s young adult novel La pel·lícula de la vida [The Film of Our Lives] to the screen, introducing younger audiences to pressing social issues such as job insecurity, the housing crisis and evictions, and xenophobia. With sensitivity and care, she reveals how Barcelona drives out its less privileged residents, yet balances this harsh reality with a delightful mix of daily life and fantasy. The film also showcases Iborra’s mastery of the stop-motion technique, adding texture and magic to the story. The director and the author of the original book will present this screening, which marks the film’s Latin American première, just a couple of weeks after its release in Catalan and Spanish cinemas.
