According to UNESCO, every two weeks a language dies, and with it disappears a unique worldview, an irreplaceable way of understanding reality. Globalization, monolingual education systems, and assimilation policies have accelerated this process, generating what we might call “linguistic inbreeding,” where diversity of thought is reduced by the standardization of language. Beyond nostalgia for what is lost, defending linguistic diversity is also an act of resistance against the xenophobic and exclusionary tendencies that threaten our contemporary societies.
