Municipal Data Office
A tool for the unified management of public data.
Thanks to all the technological and sensor infrastructure deployed by the city, we generate, collect, receive, store, process or share a lot of data that has great intrinsic value.
Data becomes an infrastructure of public interest, a shared resource and for the common good. They are the key to the city and can be used to make decisions faster and more democratically, to promote innovation, to achieve better public services and to empower people.
With this premise, the council considered it a priority to open the Municipal Data Office (OMD), which today is responsible for the management, quality, governance and exploitation of data owned and/or guarded by the City Council of Barcelona and all its associated bodies (public or private).
The current volume of information that citizens and the City Council itself generate with their activities, combined with existing technology and data science, allows us to take a leap forward and be more efficient in capturing, storing and analyzing them - them and draw conclusions that help in making decisions for new public measures.
