Non-sexist stories
Stories are, to a large extent, children's first access to culture, and the first representation of the society in which they will have to live.
They are short stories that help children structure their thinking, define who they are and interpret reality, learning the values and norms of the society in which they live. However, stories, like other cultural manifestations, often transmit stereotypes and attitudes of inequality and discrimination as a reflection of the social relationships that surround us. This limits children and, at the same time, promotes the exclusion of people, groups and ways of loving, living and relating.
That is why it is important that families and educators have resources and can promote a co-educational selection, reading and creation of stories that promote, in children, gender equity and respect for sexual and emotional diversity, as well as other values such as solidarity, respect for the environment, the defense of human rights and coexistence between people, regardless of race, sex, religion, opinion or any other personal or social condition or circumstance.
The project includes
- 120-minute training session with non-formal education professionals to collectively reflect on co-educational practice and the value of stories in promoting a more just and egalitarian education.
- Storytelling activities in children's facilities.
