A feminist city
Barcelona is a diverse city committed to gender equality, where women with very diverse realities, ages, origins and conditions live side by side. This pluralism clearly means that public policies are needed that take into account structural gender inequalities and guarantee the rights of all women.
The City Council is working to include the feminist perspective in all spheres of public action, promoting autonomy, participation, security and the recognition of women’s political, social and economic rights. The main strategy consists of tackling the structural causes of gender inequality and sexism.
This also includes prevention and tackling gender violence, with specialised services and care and support programmes. To that end, public policies and specialised services are designed, implemented and coordinated to provide support for all women who have suffered physical, sexual, psychological, economic or labour violence during their lives.
Feminist policies are structured around three main areas: the promotion of rights, comprehensive tackling of gender violence and including the gender perspective across all municipal action.
