Correos Film Festival

The first ever film festival devoted to the world of the postal service is about to open. It will be held at the Cineteca in Madrid, from 30th October to 1st November.

Correos has created a festival of short films in which the central figure is the postman. The aim of the initiative is to use cinema and audiovisual creation to highlight the work of the men and women who deliver the mail, at a time when many new technologies are coming to the fore.

The short film competition the ‘Correus Film Festival’ is an initiative devised to celebrate the importance of the postal service, and particularly its main figure – the postman. With a total of €12,000 available in prize money, it will undoubtedly be one of the most talked-about activities on a wide-ranging programme that features not only screenings of several national and international films, but also talks by directors and actors, presentations, children’s sessions and exhibitions of stamps and movie posters.

Devised with Spanish creators in mind (or foreigners residing in Spain), the proposals for the short films (which must be between three and five minutes in length) must be submitted to the competition organisers between 10th August and 12th October. The competition will offer three jury prizes and a public prize, which will be decided by online voting. The jury will be made up of Félix Sabroso, Juan Cavestany and Roberto Pérez Toledo who, in addition to judging the works submitted, will also be presenting their own films, which they have exclusively made for this event.

The official rules for the competition are detailed on the festival’s website, where the participating short films will also be posted. Some of the films selected for this, the first Correus Film Festival, include ‘Her’ by Spike Jonze, ‘Jour de Fête’ by Jacques Tati, ‘La decima carta’ by Virgínia García del Pino, and ‘Las cartas de Alou ‘ by Montxo Armendáriz. And in case you were wondering, all the activities in the festival will be absolutely free of charge.
