Madagascar, 1939
Stamp issued to commemorate the International Exhibition held in New York in 1939, issued to be put into circulation in the old French colony of Madagascar. Ever since 1890 the island of Madagascar had been a French protectorate, until 1896 when it was definitively constituted as a colony, incorporating the territories that had been under French dominion such as Diego Suárez, Nosy Bé and Saint-Marie de Madagascar.
