The Collection of Marull on the Activities’ Showing for schools

On July the 1st, it was held in Barcelona Cosmocaixa the Activities’ Showing of EAP 2013-2014. The Ramon Marull’s Collection was present in order to spread the resources and educational and training opportunities that this site offers.

The Educational Activities Showing is organised every year by the Pedagogical Co-ordination Council in order to present the Educational Activities offered by different institutions for schools in Barcelona. This year, for the first time, the site of Ramon Marull’s Collection has been shown.

Among the stands of the showing, other institutions could be found such as La Caixa Foundation (EduCaixa), the Museu d’Història de Catalunya, the Arxiu Nacional de Catalunya, the Sagrada Familia, the Museu Blau, the markets of Barcelona, TNC, the Gas Museum, etc..

The official presentation of the event, in charge of Gerard Ardanuy, councillor of Education and Universities of the Barcelona City Council, and Lluís Noguera, director of Barcelona Cosmocaixa, led to a brief explanation by Toni Soler, journalist and commissioner of the tercentenary of Barcelona, about the activities that will take place throughout 2014 to mark the events of 1714

Then there was an entertaining round table about the topic “Science and Peter Arquillué (Actor of theatre, film and television), Lluís Torner (Professor at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and founder and director of the Institute of Photonic Science of Barcelona) and Jordi Fulla (visual artist).

The showing was afterwards developed, accompanied by refreshments in a friendly atmosphere. The group showed interest in educational activities outside the classroom that were offered by different organisations and in the resources that can be used in the classroom and that are offered by social, cultural, leisure institutions, etc…

Specifically, our stand was visited by many teaching groups of courses and disciplines, some of them as representatives of different schools, who took information for their workmates.

The interest was focused on the possibility of working part of the history and geography of the official curriculum throughout stamps. This year our pedagogical offer is based on teaching the pieces’ value of the collection as a complement for the work in classroom or at home. A research work, study, information search… on historical topics, geographic and graphic design in the period between 1840 and 1940, when the changes became important in all over the world. These changes are reflected in these small colourful stamps and it is a curious way to learn for a person who is not fond of the philatelic world. What a discovery!

To have some idea of how history and geography are shown in stamps, we encourage you to consult the collection, and we leave you a small sample of what we presented to whet your appetite!
