Christmas has arrived in the markets of Barcelona! These neighborhood cohesion spaces have organized dozens of activities to celebrate these holidays with the residents of the area.

In this article we bring you a detailed summary of the activities, which you can keep updating in the agenda of the blog ‘Som de Mercat’. Don’t miss them!

Sons de Nadal

As part of the Sons de Nadal, between 17th and 24th December, the markets of la Concepció, les Corts, Sant Gervasi, Horta, la Boqueria, l’Abaceria, la Guineueta, el Clot, la Marina and Felip II will host the musical performances of different artists: Happa Koko, Bossalo, Corcs, Tarquim, New Sabrosura Trio, La Chunga, Lia Kali, Isabelles, Fine Cinnamon and Dos Pardalets.

En família als mercats

On the 23rd of December (12h), the Hippos of Zum Zum Teatre will perform in the square in front of the Mercat del Fort Pienc, while on the 24th of December (12h), the clown show ‘Una paradeta particular’, by the Cia La Bleda, will make children and adults laugh at the Sagrada Família Market.

In addition, the Hostafrancs Market will host the performance of Los Boozan Dukes on December 17, at 5 p.m. On December 23, at 12 noon, it will be Los Labradores’ turn at the Mercat de Montserrat. On the 22nd, at 12 noon, the Mercat de la Barceloneta will also discover the world of theatre.

Sant Antoni Market

With the collaboration of TimeOut, on Saturday 18th December, in the moat of the Mercat de Sant Antoni, the Gastro Challenge competition will take place, which will consist of a quiz with questions about the market and gastronomy, led by a presenter who will energize the ‘act at all times. There will be two sessions: in the morning (11 am), for a family audience, and in the afternoon (6 pm), for younger audiences. Participants must register in teams of four. More information here.

Carmel Market

From the 16th to the 18th of December, from 11 am to 1 pm, in the Carmel Market Square, there will be a collection of toys and school supplies for children and teenagers. In addition, on December 23th and 24th, Santa Claus will visit the market to collect children’s letters.

This week opens the Christmas and Winter exhibition, a mural of children from the schools El Carmel, Coves d’en Cimany, Piaget, Torrent de la Carabassa and Virolai.

From the 1st to the 19th of December, the market collaborates with the Vall d’Hebron Blood Bank, donating products for the baskets that this entity will be raffling off.

Ninot Market

On Thursday 16th December, from 5 pm to 7 pm, Ninot will host the show “Le petit théâtre ambulant”, inspired by Renaissance traveling theaters, which brings laughter and emotions closer without the need for a specific physical space. The show was conceived during the pandemic and aims to democratize culture at a time when society was going through a complicated stage of confinement.

This December, Ninot Market is holding a series of cooking workshops to practice for these festivities. On the 15th, we will prepare a trio of cannelloni with @atacdeganna; on the 16th, a Christmas snack with @atacdeganna and @juanitete, and on the 18th, a Christmas cookie decoration workshop for the little ones.

In addition, from 27th to 31st December, from 9 am to 2 pm, Ninot is organizing a Christmas cooking club for chefs who are doing primary school. The first activity will be to prepare mid-morning breakfast and the second will be to prepare and eat a dish with Christmas touches. Boys and girls will also play games related to cooking and the Market. Children only need to wear an apron, a lunch box and a mask. The price is 130€ per child.

Sants Market

The Mercat de Sants will host the Tio visit on the 22nd (from 5 pm to 8 pm) and the 23rd of December (from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm and from 5 pm to 8 pm). In addition, on the 23rd, at 6 pm, the Sant Medir Choir will perform at the market, performing popular carols. Finally, on the 4th (from 10 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to 8 pm) and on the 5th of January (from 10 am to 2 pm), the royal page will collect the letters from the children to make their wishes come true. The market also has a toy collection point, as part of the ‘No child without a toy’ campaign.

Mercè Market

From the 17th to the 28th of December, the market will collaborate with the draw for the Vall d’Hebron Blood Bank, donating a basket with products from the market.

From 21st to 24th December, market stalls will distribute scraps of 3, 5, 10 and 20 euros to their customers to spend on the market. In addition, from 27th to 4th January, customers will be able to take part in a raffle for kitchen appliances by depositing their purchase tickets with their details in the customer service box on the market. And most importantly, on January 4th and 5th, a royal page will collect the boys’ letters and hand out lots of candy.

Sant Martí Market

Mrs. Tiona will visit the Mercat de Sant Martí on December 23rd, from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm and from 5 pm to 7.30 pm, and also on the 24th, from 10 am to 2 pm. On the 4th and 5th of January, from 10 am to 2 pm, the page of SSMM the Three Wise Men will visit the market to collect the letters from all the children.

In addition, the market is raffling off 7 Christmas baskets and 600 euros in shopping vouchers. The basket draw will take place on December 20 and the prizes will be awarded to the winners on the 23rd. The second draw, 12 vouchers of 50 euros, will be held on January 10 and the prizes will be awarded on the 14th.

Lesseps Market

The Lesseps Market set up the crib this weekend. On the 24th of December, the Uncle will visit the market and on the 4th it will be the turn of the royal page, which will collect the letters from the boys and girls.

Encants Market

Friday, December 24th, at 11.00, parade with Santa and Santa Claus, the elves of the Encants and the Goblin Trapella. On January 5th, also at 11.00, a parade of magical characters, waiting for Reis Mags.

In addition, the market draws1,250€ in vouchers. Every Monday there is a raffle for 250€ divided into 5 prizes of 50€. To take part, all you have to do is ask the stallholders for the ticket once your purchases have been made, fill it in with the details and deposit it at the Market Information Point (floor 0). In addition, a basket of market products will be raffled off on December 24th and a tablet on the 5th.

Montserrat Market

On Saturday 18th December, from 11 am to 1 pm, the workshop “Personalize the Caga Tió dish” will be held at the Mercat de Montserrat, organized by the Nou Barris district. This workshop will allow participants to learn about the operating system of a vinyl cutting plotter and to be able to design a unique dish for the uncle.

Canyelles Market

On Thursday 30th December, from 11 am to 1 pm, the “Letters to the Three Wise Men” workshop will take place at the Mercat de Canyelles, organized by the Nou Barris district. Children will be able to make their personalized laser cut letter and give it to the Royal Page or the Magi. Participants will be able to assemble a 3D puzzle of wooden Christmas motifs. At the same time, they will discover the operating system of a cutting plotter.

In addition, on December 23rd, from 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm, the market is organizing a Christmas ball workshop, and on the 24th, from 11 am to 1.30 pm, live carols. On January 3rd and 4th, children will be able to deliver their letters to the Royal Page.

Les Tres Torres Market

To celebrate Christmas, the Les Tres Torres Market is raffling off 3 Christmas baskets and € 600 in shopping vouchers. The baskets will be raffled off on the 18th of December and will be given to the winners on the 23rd, while the shopping vouchers (10 prizes of € 60) will be raffled off on the 10th of January and will be delivered on the 15th.

Abaceria Market

Abaceria Market organizes a series of Christmas activities this December and January. On Thursday 23rd December, from 11 am to 2 pm, the children will participate in ‘Caga Tió’, while on the 24th, from 11 am to 1 pm, it will be the turn of elderly people.

In addition, the market organizes a Christmas raffle! The first prize is a gift voucher valued at 300€, the second is three gift vouchers valued at 100€ and the third is six gift vouchers valued at 50€. To take part, all you have to do is deposit a purchase ticket for any of the indoor and outdoor stalls on the market, indicating your name and telephone number, in the box at the Rebost stall. Winners will be announced on the 23rd.

Finally, on Monday 3rd January (from 5 pm to 8 pm) and on Tuesday 4 January (from 11 am to 2 pm), children will be able to deliver the letter to SS.MM. els Reis Mags d’Orient.

Concepció Market

On December 23rd, from 10 am to 2 pm, the Water Festival will take place at the Mercat de la Concepción, led by Aigües de Barcelona. Children between the ages of 3 and 12 will be able to have fun and learn by playing with water. At the beginning of the party, participants will receive a glass of water that they can fill as many times as they want.

On December 24th, children will be able to participate in ‘caga tió’ in the market from 9 am to 3 pm On the 28th of December, from 9 am to 2 pm and from 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm, visitors will have to watch out for ‘llufes’, and on the 31st, ‘home dels nassos’  will walk around the market.

On the 3rd, 4th and 5th of January, the children of the neighbourhood will be able to give their letters to Patge Enric, who will be waiting for them at the market to listen to all their requests. Barceloneta Market and Santa Caterina Market

Santa Caterina Market will host a small-format performance with one or two instruments by the Taller de Músics on December 21st, at 12 noon. On the 23rd, from 5.30 pm to 6.30 pm, it will be the turn of the Barceloneta market.

Les Corts Market

From the 23rd to the 24th of December, from 10 am to 2 pm, children will be able to participate in ‘caga tió’ at the Mercat de Les Corts, and on the 4th and 5th of January, at the same time, they will be able to deliver their letters to the Royal Page. Also, on December 28th, market visitors will have to be wary of the innocent ones!

Sarrià Market

Children and families visiting the Sarrià Market on the 14th, from 11 a.m. to 2.30 p.m., will be able to spend some time with Santa Claus. In addition, the market raffles 40 vouchers of € 50 each until January 5th.
