Environmental values are part of the main axes of the Municipal Institute of Markets of Barcelona. The IMMB carries out actions and awareness-raising campaigns against food waste, separates the different fractions of waste and defends renewable energy and energy saving.

This last point materialises with the contract established with Barcelona Energia, charged with the electrical supply of the buildings of the municipal markets. Barcelona Energia provided initial advice that has made it possible to adapt the power and reduce the bills by between 1% and 2%, which has led to an annual saving of between 25,000 and 30,000 Euros. The commercialisation company and the IMMB’s Technical Services continuously analyse consumption, in order to optimise power and detect anomalies in the operation of the facilities.

Furthermore, the IMMB has also promoted an agreement between the Federation of Municipal Markets of Barcelona (FEMM) and Barcelona Energia to promote among the stallholders the supply of energy by this public operator in their individual consumption.
