Barcelona wants to celebrate this Christmas with the conviction that it is necessary to do it in a very special way. Nadal is one of the most important festivals of our culture and for the city it is celebration and hope, culture and creativity, enjoyment of public space and citizen participation. That is why a party has been designed for everyone, for the boys and girls of the city, but also for young and old.

Ciutat de Nadal model sets itself this year the challenge of making Barcelona a benchmark for Christmas celebrations. For this, every effort has been made to program a set of unique and quality proposals that over forty days bring an extraordinary and shared experience for the inhabitants and visitors.

A Christmas cultural proposal made with the complicity of the commerce, markets and restoration sector that unfolds in central and reference spaces of the city, but also in its 10 districts. In total, there will be up to 300 show screenings, with about 300 artists and 85 agents involved. An extensive and decentralized program that highlights the creativity and talent of the local cultural and artistic fabric. The Christmas campaign wants to turn the street back into a great celebration of citizen participation and also boost the commercial fabric of the city, especially local commerce. An extensive program that has been possible thanks to the collaboration between the City Council and dozens of public and private entities in the city.

In the markets of Barcelona, ​​the memory of Christmas in the past is revisited with the edition of one million postcards that will be distributed in these spaces. They are historical images from all the districts with Christmas recipes and Christmas literary quotes on the back. In addition, weekends are raffled off in the city of Barcelona.

From December 18 to 30, 2021, in Plaça Catalunya family workshops, performing arts, music and visual arts will be held for all types of audiences. It will be divided into three time slots of mornings, afternoons and eve for different ages and has the involvement of public, associative, cooperative and private entities. The Plaza Universidad will also be a point of reference for the Festival’s programming with an interactive piece of architecture from the Domestic Data Streamers studio that generates Christmas stories from the participation of pedestrians.

Sons de Nadal will be presented in the districts, a musical program of 100 street concerts in all the city’s neighborhoods, with the leading role of jazz, classical and indie music and with Christmas references. More than 40 local formations will play live in the streets and squares in free concerts. This extensive program has been designed in collaboration with Primavera Labels, Sónar, Cruïlla, the Association of Jazz and Modern Music Musicians, the Taller de Músics and the Liceu Conservatory.

And also: the nativity scenes of the city, The Magic of the Magi, the New Year’s Eve celebration, family activities in the districts, the Christmas Tree in Plaça Sant Jaume and a long etcetera.
