It was born as an open-air market when Sant Andreu de Palomar was still an independent municipality.

It is located in Plaça del Mercadal, which was designed in 1850, when Sant Andreu de Palomar was an independent municipality in the plain of Barcelona. An open-air market was set up in this location where local farmers and other traders sold their products. Today, most market sellers are descendants of those early traders.

Architecture

The definitive roofing of the market, of metallic structure in the line of the constructions of iron and closing of exposed work, was inaugurated in 1914.
