The works were an initiative of the IMMB in agreement with the traders and began in 2011, according to a project by the architect Daniel Mòdol. Completed in 2013, they were carried out by UTE-DRAGADOS and TAU-ICESA and did not involve the transfer of traders to a temporary market.
Technical details:
- Comprehensive refurbishment with expansion of the space by 2,111 m2.
- Conservation of the structure and the roof over the sales space of the old building, but with the installation of a translucent cover to make the sales space brighter.
- Renewal of services and logistics area of the market.
- Renewal and adaptation of the commercial mix.
- Renovation of the exterior façades with the front facing towards Passeig de Valldaura.
- The market has become accessible and energy efficiency measures have been incorporated.
Results
The facility has new services and infrastructure: the services, the logistics area (rubbish and the loading and unloading bays), the storage spaces and the cold rooms on the basement floor were renovated. It was also equipped with a multipurpose room and a new heating and cooling system and the lighting of the market was improved.
Through the construction of an exterior hall under a glazed pergola, the bar, the bank branch and the shops that were located at the back of the market, a space now occupied by the Mercadona supermarket.
