The refurbishment project was carried out by the architects Fernando Mur, Joan Garganté and Miquel Vila, from the company G56. The reforms led to a complete renovation of the interior and exterior of the market.
The rehabilitation of the façades made it possible to achieve one of the main goals in the reform of the market: improving accessibility. In this way, the three side doors that lead to Carrer de les Corts were concentrated in a new, much wider, comfortable and pleasant main access, with glass doors. The interior refurbishment resulted in:
- The structural reform of the building.
- The renovation of the drainage.
- The floor paving.
- The construction of a room for the recycling of rubbish.
- The creation of new infrastructures such as the installation of heating and cooling.
- The reorganisation and adaptation of the commercial mix to the new commercial needs of the neighbourhood.
- The renovation of the establishments, many of which offer new products, which now give a brighter and more modern atmosphere to the market.
Furthermore, the area of the supermarket was extended to 700 m2, which complements the market's commercial offer, and a new bakery with tasting was opened.
The aim of this refurbishment included the modernisation of the facility that is deeply rooted in the neighbourhood, and the fact of completing the commercial offer with the expansion of a supermarket operator and a bakery-cafeteria. The reform was finished within the planned period after 12 months of work.
In the context of a neighbourhood where the presence of large commercial areas is important, the refurbishment of the market opted for a different model, where the purchase of fresh produce is promoted.
