The works were an initiative of the IMMB in agreement with the traders and began in June 2012. Finished thirteen months later, the works, according to the project of Mur-Garganté Arquitectes Associats, were carried out by the company PAI Constructions. As in other markets, such as Sarrià, Poblenou and Guineueta, they were carried out without the construction of a temporary market.
Technical details:
- Expansion of the market with the construction of a building to include a supermarket.
- Renovation of the sales floor and common spaces.
- Reform of the façades.
- Enlargement of the car park, with space for one hundred parking places and renovation of the underground floor, which houses the service area, cold rooms and market storerooms.
- Transfer and refurbishment of the logistics area: loading and unloading bays and rubbish area. This made it possible to enable a new main access and a new public square.
- Renovation of the heating and cooling system and the water heating installation with an energy saving system.
Results
The facility has new services and infrastructure: the services, the logistics area and the heating and cooling and water heating were renewed. The car park was also expanded and it has become an accessible market.
The prefabricated elements that were incorporated into the façade function as thermal insulation and, through the creation of a new entrance hall porch, a common access was generated for the market and the Carrefour supermarket, although the latter has an independent entrance during the hours when the market is closed.
