The connection of the tram systems will give Barcelona a public transport system which links nine municipalities in the Metropolitan Area and moves towards a better connected, healthier, friendlier and more sustainable city.
Barcelona d’Infraestructures Municipals (BIMSA) has opened the bidding process for the first four lots of the civil works in phase one of the project for the connection and urbanisation of the tram network.
The publication of the bidding process signals the start of the task to award and begin the works and it has come about following the approval of the collaboration agreement, in December last year, by the Municipal Council of Barcelona City Council and the board of directors of the Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM) to make this project a reality. The two parties approved the projects in phase one of the project to connect the tram systems (the Verdaguer-Glòries stretch) and the budget earmarked for the project.
With the launch of this bidding process, Barcelona City Council and the ATM are fulfilling their commitment to put the works out to tender before the summer, with the aim of getting the work started this coming autumn.
