The new tram section, connecting Sant Adrià de Besòs and Badalona with L’Eixample, should eliminate around 2,000 cars a day from Av. Diagonal. It includes the three new stops of Monumental, Sicília and Verdaguer, and runs along a renewed Diagonal with wider pavements, a bike lane and more greenery.
The new tram section coming into service between Parc de les Glòries and Verdaguer means a boost to a faster and more sustainable means of transport and an improvement to the connections within the network, linking with four metro lines and thirteen bus services.
The new tram section is part of the T4 Trambesòs line and connects the Sant Adrià station with Verdaguer directly. From now on, the Besòs network, which also includes the T5 and the T6, covers 16.1 kilometres and has 29 stops. In all, the tram network covers 31.2 kilometres and has 58 stops.
The operating hours for the tram are from Sunday to Thursday, 5 am to midnight, and Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of public holidays, from 5 am to 2 am.
A step closer to connecting in Av. Diagonal
The second and final stage of the project to connect the Trambaix and Trambesòs systems relies on various administrative procedures being completed.
On one hand, the final project for reurbanising the section between Verdaguer and Francesc Macià is ready, and the final project to install a new sewerage facility in this part of the city is also being drafted. Both these projects should be definitively approved in the spring of 2025.
At the same time, the Metropolitan Transport Authority (ATM) must process the project for the infrastructure and installations, which will include three new stops: Diagonal / Cinc d’Oros, Balmes and Casanova.
Once the three documents have made their way through the administrative steps, work will be able to begin and should take around forty months.
