Education

Cloenda APS

Plurality of beliefs and convictions can be found in every area of our society, including our educational community, which is becoming a reflection of the city’s diversity. Knowing and understanding cultural and religious plurality, and experiencing it as an enriching feature, are key tools for educating our young and raising them in certain values, for guaranteeing rights and respect, and for appreciating what the various traditions and communities bring the city.

The OAR offers a series of educational activities where this internal diversity is not only respected but also turned into a tool for effective learning. The following proposals facilitate knowledge and recognition of this plurality and also generate learning, participation and dialogue spaces between students and the people who are part of the communities holding the beliefs and convictions found in Barcelona.

Guided tours of several religious communities’ centres of worship in Barcelona. A discovery activity enabling tours of several places of worship located in the area and discussions with the people in charge, so students can find out at first hand about the communities that congregate there.

The aim behind this activity is to introduce them to the religious diversity in their surroundings, make them aware of the importance of the right to religious freedom and freedom of worship, and strengthen their respect for differences in a society where people of all convictions and beliefs, religious or not, live together.

The activity is intended for final-year primary education students, secondary education and baccalaureate students, and vocational training (VT) students. The tours last roughly 90 minutes, enabling two to be organised in one morning, and are guided by members of the communities themselves.

The activity is free of charge, although you are welcome to make a donation to the communities.

We have an education pack for you entitled Know your religions, offering a brief introduction to the various religious traditions found in Barcelona.

To request a tour, please contact the Religious Affairs Office. Podeu You can get information on “Places of worship, spaces to discover” from the PAE School Activities Programme website.

Educational dynamic involving investigations of the religious traditions professed by various individuals, taking account of their image, as well as a few phrases relating to their identity and beliefs. Its purpose is to present the city’s religious plurality and debunk stereotypes or prejudices associated with various religious and spiritual traditions.

It is a brief dynamic, thought up for primary and/or secondary school students. One of the people in the OAR team may well run a workshop for teachers and/or students, as well as provide teaching staff with a pack for use in the classroom.

To request a pack, please contact the Religious Affairs Office (OAR). You get information on the "Travel pack: Faces of the plurality of beliefs in Barcelona. Breaking stereotypes and overcoming prejudices" from the PAE School Activities Programme website.

Community Service and Learning project for secondary education students, offering them a chance to discover the plurality of beliefs in their surroundings by creating an education pack based on exploring their area’s religious diversity. The aim is to arouse students’ curiosity, introduce them to realities that differ from their own, broaden their knowledge, overcome prejudices and promote their respect for cultural and religious diversity.

For further information on the APS please contact the Religious Affairs Office. You can find information on APS from the PAE School Activities Programme website.

Community Learning and Service Project (APS) for secondary school students in which we propose that students identify stereotypical and discriminatory narratives about various groups by origin, religion or racialization in textbooks and other educational materials (with which they usually work) and be able to develop proposals for improvement that are more plural and free of racism, as well as pose counter-narratives.

For further information on the APS please contact the Religious Affairs Office. You can find information on APS from the PAE School Activities Programme website.
