The construction of the neighbourhood's first market at the start of the 1960s served to provide Bon Pastor a commercial and social focal point.
The old Bon Pastor Market was built in the shopping and social centre of Bon Pastor residential estate. It was designed by architects Enric Piqué and Antoni Canyelles and was officially opened in 1961. It is worth noting that many of the market's first traders came from Bon Pastor itself. Others came from Les Carolines, an early example of a shopping quarter built between 1929 and 1934 across the four streets Empúries (now Claramunt), Blanes, Llívia and Puigcerdà, today known for its famous bar-cafe.
Other traders included shopkeepers who used to sell goods from the windows of their cases barates, a type of housing existing in Bon Pastor, travelling vendors selling fish, fruit and vegetables who, for the most part, came from the neighbouring Barcelona, or were from the premises and stalls of the Cooperativa (a building on the other side of Carrer de Sant Adrià).
