The concert programme proposed by theorbo player Nacho Laguna focuses on the figure of Giovanni Pittoni Ferrarese, a musician active in Ferrara who worked outside formal circuits and of whom only limited documentation survives. Among the existing sources, the accounts related to his engagement with the theorbo stand out; according to these, he learned the instrument in an autodidactic manner. This fragmentary historical material provides a starting point from which to approach a fascinating period and instrumental tradition.
Nacho Laguna (1995) is a theorbo player, guitarist and sound artist trained at the CSMA, the UdK Berlin and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. Founder of Acciaccatura Ensemble, Ballarte Ensemble and Ballarte Festival, he has collaborated with internationally renowned ensembles and artists and has performed across Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia. His interest in interdisciplinarity has led him to work in theatre, dance and performance, as well as on various recording projects with prestigious labels. His first solo album, Ferrarese (2023), has been awarded 5 diapasons by the French magazine Diapason.
