More than 2.400 music instruments and 400 art objects that allow carefully study their different scientific aspects. A quarter of the fund is in the permanent exhibition and the rest is kept in accessible reserves.
The musical archive comprises donations and legacies of musicians closely tied to Barcelona's musical culture from the 19th and 20th centuries as Isaac Albéniz, Enric Granados, Joaquim Malats, Joan Manén and Miquel Llobet, among others. The archive preserves from original hanwritten scores and photographs to personal objects, works of art and a remarkable epistolary collection. It is a basic reference for the study of music in Catalonia during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
Conserves a set of 13.000 sound records in different media: wax cylinders, piano rolls, perforated tapes, magnetic tapes... showing of the fixation of sound in the last three hundred years.
Multimedia archive
The Multimedia Archive comprises more than 60,000 items that document the collections and the activity of the museum: identification and restoration photographs of the instruments, digitized documents of the historical archive and the sound collection, images of the permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as of the activities and concerts. Part of this archive can be consulted through the online collections.
