The Asian Musics Program from the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) will host the International Symposium on Korean Music: New Trends on Research and Performance, that will bring together in Barcelona some of the most acknowledged researchers on Korean music. The participants will present in their keynote speeches and paper presentations the results of their latest research. The symposium will cover different characteristics of traditional, popular and classical music from Korea, addressed from approaches such as transmission and re-interpretation of tradition, interculturality, contemporary performance and composition, performance space, etc.
This event is the academic component to the exhibition Eolssigu! The sounds of Korea, which will be offered by the Museu de la Música de Barcelona from October 31st, 2017, to June 3rd, 2018, and will bring us closer to the sounds and musical practices from Korea by means of an exhibit of musical instruments and other objects, as well as the publication of a book-catalog, audiovisual materials, workshops, and an inaugural concert by sixteen musicians who will come from Korea for this occasion.
