Seminar for choral directors about the Red Book of Montserrat

14.11.2024

Organized jointly by the Feliks Nowowiyeski Academy of Music of Bydgoszcz (Poland) and the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, on November 14 a seminar will be held at the Museu de la Música de Barcelona aimed at international choral directors that will discuss the Llibre Vermell de Montserrat. The Library of the Abbey of Montserrat keeps as the first volume of its manuscript collection the codex known as the Red Book of Montserrat. This codex, which owes its title to the color of the covers, was being copied in 1399, and is considered a remarkable work out of the Montserrat desk.

The seminar, aimed at choral directors from Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Catalonia and open to the general public, aims to publicize the historical and musical content of this work on the occasion of the millennium of the Monastery of Montserrat, which will be held in 2025. The participation of some thirty heads of choirs is expected and the program will have the participation of the renowned musicologists Maricarmen Gómez Muntaner and Juan Carlos Asensio (ESMUC professor).

Between 14 and 17 November, apart from the seminar at the Museu de la Música, different activities have been programmed at the ESMUC, the Montserrat Monastery and Lloret de Mar.
