Carles Santos considered the theatre to be one of the true spaces for listening to music. The idea of transforming the traditional concert and reinforcing its scenographic character still resonates among contemporary artists.
When Marta Pazos comes across one of these performances by Carles Santos, her career takes a turn. Today, a stage director, set designer, playwright and visual artist, she has designed for the Barcelona Music Museum Santas, a timeless space governed by the colour pink, where the piano is transformed into an altar guarded by a group of figures that emerge from nowhere, and which evokes the work of Mariaelena Roqué, an essential tandem in Santos' career, which gives telluric volume and a new character to the museum space.
The session concludes with La voce del silenzio, an action by the drag queen Goliarda Parda. In his practice, he delves into cultural codes to redefine them and to emphasize commonplaces of the pop scene in 20th-century Italy. On the occasion of the exhibition, Goliarda approaches music as a code of representation, a fundamental fact in the practice of Santos, and specifically in the exploration of the figure of silence, celebrating the multiple forms it can take in music writing.
