Programme

Between 1986 and 1994, the Centre for Documentation and Dissemination of Contemporary Music sought to turn Barcelona into a hub for new trends in contemporary music, opening a window onto the musical debates taking place across Europe, particularly in France. The surviving documents, now stored in cardboard boxes, include budgets, invoices, explanatory reports, résumés, catalogues, letters, transcriptions, scores, and recordings of concerts and lectures, in various formats.

An insistent ghost haunts all these documents: “The problem of music,” the phrase that appears most often. In a country undergoing a process of transition, while the Soviet Union dissolves, digital technologies emerge, and global neoliberalism takes hold—what problem are we talking about? How does all this affect musical creativity? Who is who?

Within this framework, the artists will carry out an artistic intervention based on the archive, conceived as a public activation of its contents and an exploration of the possibilities it offers for rethinking contemporary music and its historical context.
