Thanks to his modernist outlook, his work, rooted in XIXth century musical romanticism, anticipated the new styles of the XXth century and formed a bridge between the musical traditions of the south and north of Europe, which served as a model to generations of future composers. Artistic aspirations, internal conflicts, the view of his contemporaries and the international reach of his work are just some of the many facets explored in this exhibition, which draws upon the rich and varied historical sources of the Barcelona Museu de la Música.
