Overall, this exhibition is a good sample of the diversity of sculpturing today. For the Museum, the holding of this sculpture exhibition forms a stimulating counterpoint to our classical guitar collection and to the 12th edition of the Miquel Llobet International Guitar Competition of Barcelona, which takes place in the city in the months of October and November of each year, supplementing this event's qualifying trials, semifinals and final, which were hosted by the Museum and L'Auditori on 5th, 6th and 8th November with the participation of guitarists from around the globe.
The Catalan Institute for Research in Sculpture, ICRE, together with the Miquel Llobet International Guitar Competition and Museu de la Música de Barcelona, launched this year the 1st International "Three-Dimensional Music" Competition in homage to the guitar. A total of 34 artists from 9 countries (Hungary, Finland, France, Italy, Denmark, Argentina, Switzerland, United States and Spain) took part in it, contributing a rich multiplicity of formal and material proposals. The Selection Committee - formed by Dr Sergi Oliva, tenured professor of sculpture at the University of Barcelona (UB); Dr Pilar Vélez, director of Museu del Disseny, the Design Museum of Barcelona; and Dr Jaume Ayats, director of Museu de la Música de Barcelona - has chosen the 20 works on display at the exhibition, which will be running from 25 October 2015 to 17 January 2016 at the Museum's Temporary Exhibitions Room.
