Vehicles with a foreign number plate

banner ZBE

If you are planning to come to Barcelona and its metropolitan area with a vehicle with a foreign number plate, you must register beforehand and check that you comply with the necessary environmental requisites. If your vehicle meets the requirements, you may circulate without restrictions. If your vehicle does not meet the requirements, you must apply for daily permits up to a maximum of ten permits per year to be able to circulate in the Barcelona Ring Roads Low Emission Zone.

Barcelona, an action for the climate city

Barcelona implements actions for safeguarding air quality and fighting climate change. The designation of the Barcelona Ring Roads Low Emission Zone is a measure to improve the quality of the air we breathe, and at the same time to promote other ways of getting around the city, which guarantee safe, sustainable, equitable, efficient mobility. More than two hundred European cities now have defined environmental protection zones to safeguard people's health.

FAQs

  • TAll vehicles that have a DGT environmental label may circulate inside the LEZ.

  • They are subject to the same restrictions as all other vehicles. In order to gain access to the area delimited by the LEZ, all vehicles registered abroad must have previously applied for authorisation from the Metropolitan Registry for Foreign and Other Vehicles Authorised for the BMA's LEZs.

  • They are based on the classification of vehicles carried out by the General Directorate of Traffic, in accordance with the National Air Quality and Atmospheric Protection Plan 2013-2016. The restrictions are gradually being applied to the vehicles with the most polluting environmental labels.

  • All the data gathered by the Catalan Air Pollution Monitoring and Forecasting Network (XVPCA) are available on the Barcelona Air Quality website and the Generalitat of Catalonia website.
